Our Story

Tropical Almond (Indian Almond , Terminalia Catappa) locally known in Ghana as ‘Abrofo Nkate’  is a delicacy to almost every kid in Ghana. Children will spend their time and energy during weekends and holidays in search of these fruits. They will climb the tallest trees, shake down the fruits, and skillfully crack open the very hard seed coat to get these nuts. This tree is found in several homes, street sides and school compounds in rural areas and big cities in Ghana, and also in most parts of sub-saharan Africa. Even though the nuts of the tree are nourished with a cosmetic oil better than argon & almonds , and a fibrous nuts which contains more protein than chicken and more fibre than oats, it only serves as an ornamental plant, providing shade for locals. Thus, year after year, a good amount of food, revenue, and trees are lost. People are cutting them down because they aren’t seen as beneficial.

Growing up on these trees and becoming privy to several of its benefits, the team realized it could solve many societal problems through this tree. Tropical Almond innovated the first-ever vertically integrated supply chain for the Tropical Almond tree in Ghana. We have created a mobile app used by our interns to take records of locations of trees and contacts of the marginalized in society, who we employ to collect and crack the nuts to be used for producing our Abrofo Nkate Oil & Abrofo Nkate Mix. We are saving trees, providing free food supplement for school kids in rural areas, providing jobs for marginalized in our society, and giving the world the best natural moisturizing oil with numerous benefits simultaneously!
